Cocu critical despite cup victory

Head coach Phillip Cocu was not happy with his team's performance after the game. "The contrast is too big, that has to come out. If you really want to compete for the prizes then that's what we have to improve."

Reaction Phillip Cocu
"I can't really be happy," Cocu looked back on the match won. "The goal was achieved, we reached the next round. You get ahead 2-0 and then they still equalize and even have a chance at 2-3. That's not possible, especially after the game in Almelo. After that we did give gas again and win it in the end. I am happy that we are through, but not with the game shown." Cocu had to replace Locadia early in the second half. "Jürgen was bothered by his groin. At halftime we tested him and it showed that it was better not to continue. We couldn't take a risk that it would get worse."

Reaction Henk de Jong
"In hindsight there might have been more in it for us," De Jong reflected. "It's a game in between and maybe then you have a chance. We're just not in a good situation ourselves, so we knew it would be a very tough game for both teams. We struggled before halftime with crosses from the flanks, but got a few chances ourselves. But we were too modest in that. In the second half we did better. In the end, PSV's penalty was justified. With an extension for our group, we probably would have fallen over. We are rightly out and I wish Phillip Cocu and PSV a lot of success."
