PSV is strengthening with top scout Thomas Schaling. The 37-year-old Dutchman comes over from American MLS club Charlotte FC, where he held the position of 'Director of Scouting' since January 2020. At PSV, he will become 'Head of Recruitment'.
Schaling previously worked successfully for AZ (2008-2010) and PSV (2010-2019), respectively, before moving to the United States. There he played a key role in establishing the scouting apparatus and developing more broadly the young American football club, which was only founded in 2019 and has participated in Major League Football since 2022. At Charlotte, Schaling was closely involved in appointing trainers, staff members and the (sales) of players, among other things.
Meanwhile, Charlotte is a stable MLS club and home matches average between 35,000 and 40,000 spectators in the stands. "Thomas has a highly respected track record in the football world," said director of football affairs Earnest Stewart. "His keen eye for talent and ability to establish the scouting structure the club envisions make him a perfect match for PSV's ambitious plans."
Schaling begins his new adventure with the Eredivisie frontrunner this week. "We are very happy to welcome him back to PSV. With the arrival of Thomas we are taking an important step in fulfilling our future plans," Stewart concluded.
